Long before Lisa stood as a standalone feminine name, it formed the core of Elisabeth—making it a close acquaintance of Beth, Elise, and Eliza. The name comes from the Greek variation of the Hebrew Elisheba, Elisabet, and means "God's promise." Encompassing devotion, honor, and motherhood, Elisabeth bears substantial biblical significance as the mother of John the Baptist.
