The story behind the name
Bastian is a masculine name of Latin origin, meaning “man of Sebastia”. This name also has roots in Greek and Spanish. You might recognize this name from the German fantasy book The Neverending Story and its 1984 film adaption. Lead character Bastian Balthazar Bux finds himself plunged into the mythological world of Fantasia, which desperately needs a hero to save it from destruction. This legendary name is embedded in the cultural knowledge of many 80s and 90s kids across the world, and naming baby after such a beloved character is surely inspired!
