The story behind the name
Abu-Bakr is a popular name in the Muslim world as it was the name of one of the sahabas of the Holy Prophet. The name is composed of two words, ‘abu’ meaning “father” and ‘bakr’ meaning “young camel”. Abu Bakr as-Siddiq was the closest companion of the Prophet Muhammad. In naming their children Abu Bakr, Muslims show their respect to the Holy Prophet. It is also the name of Pahang’s royal mosque in Malaysia.
