The story behind the name
This Spanish and Portuguese version of Richard is especially popular in the US’s Latino communities. Richard, with Germanic origins, translates as “ric” (“powerful leader”). The name arrived in England via the French Normans in the 11th century and on the baby-name charts at the end of the 19th century. “Scandal” fans know a famous Ricardo: Actor Ricardo Chavira, who played doomed President Frankie Vargas on the drama series.
