The story behind the name
Eluding a noble charm, Obadiah is a Hebrew masculine name with far humbler roots. Originally Ōḇaḏyā, Obadiah means "servant of God" in reference to the biblical figure. A wealthy man, Obadiah expended his riches feeding a hundred prophets he had hidden to save from persecution. It was an act of service that left him in debt but earned him a most priceless gift, that of prophecy. Obadiah is a beautiful lesson in the power of serving, teaching its bearer that doing so enriches the self more than material ever could.
