The story behind the name
Halima is a girl’s name of Arabic origin. It translates to “gentle” or “mild-mannered”, two things that are no doubt a gift in a baby’s temperament. Halima sounds light and soft on the tongue and offers a sweet alternative to other ‘h' names, like Hannah or Hayley. This name has made a stamp on the culture thanks to Halima Aden, the Somali-American fashion model who broke ground by being the first Miss Minnesota USA pageant competitor to wear a hijab. She also was the first model to wear a hijab and burkini in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Halima’s strides prove that being gentle can go hand-in-hand with being strong, which baby can aspire towards.
