Meaning “God is my salvation,” Elisha is a gender-neutral name of Hebrew origin infused with devotion and dutiful action. Emerging from the ancient name Elishu'a, Elisha shares its elements el, meaning "God", and sha, meaning "help." Though similar in sound to Elijah, Elisha was a loyal follower to the Hebrew prophet, not a variation of him—though, in time, he would become his faithful successor.
