Egypt is a gendern-neutral name of American origin. That is not to say that Egypt is American, just that naming a baby with the country's name is American. The word itself comes from aigyptos which is Greek. If you're an American that can claim descent from the brilliant ancient lands and people, or perhaps you just miss home yourself, the name Egypt will always remind you and baby of your African roots.

It was thought Egypt was a girls-only place-name until singer Alicia Keys and rap producer husband Swizz Beatz used it for their son...and why not? Egypt certainly works as well for a boy as for a girl.
