The story behind the name
Dwayne is a boy's given name of Irish origin. It is the anglicized version of the Irish name Dubhán, which was a popular surname in historic times. Saint Dubhán, pronounced "dove-awn", was a Welsh priest who landed in Co. Wexford in Ireland circa the 5th century and for whom Hook Head was originally named. Dubhán is most commonly interpreted as meaning "black" and "dark," but it is also a Norman translation meaning "fishing hook." No doubt you will fall hook, line, and sinker for your little baby Dwayne!
