The story behind the name
There’s no doubt that TV has made a major impact on baby names. One of these examples includes the British boy’s name Dawson, meaning “son of David.” Many babies were given the name Dawson following the success of the late-1990s teen-angst series “Dawson’s Creek.” Though the show no longer airs, the name, which peaked on the charts at the turn of the century, is still popular—both with fans of the show and with parents who like last names as first names. It comes from a surname taken from “Daw,” the medieval nickname for David.
